Subject: no moderator right now

oldblue, who moderated this Discussion Board for years, tendered his resignation the other night. Given as how I was only paying him $0 I couldn't really argue. I thank him for my many years of thankless moderating.

But that means we're running without a mod at least for now. I don't have time to read every post so in the meantime, if you see something objectionable, post a message "MrFixit: topic 'old music'" and then in the message give me details of who posted the song you don't like.

No, just kidding. But that's the general idea.

I've been popping into the "crisis" thread every once in a while but so far has my skimming has discerned everyone is being nice. That's my #1 concern is when things get too rowdy and folks start attacking each other.  Besides that I'm inclined to let things ride.

And if you wanna volunteer for the high profile moderator job, just email me dennis.cronin(a)gmail.com.  You don't get to delete posts you simply don't like, only if things get out of hand or downright obscene.

There will always be those who push the envelope. Posting a political thread is just begging for it. JS

If everyone stays polite I have no issue.  I'm ever-hopeful we can be nice pleasant adults.  Historically anything heavier than "favorite old music" tends to spiral but we'll see. Hence the admonition. 

Like I said if you see a rude post, start a thread titled "MrFixit: [thread name]" and a brief description of the transgression.  Don't complain about something you don't agree with, just personal attacks or overt obscenity or of course hate speech.

So … what happened to the previous post about our shiny new moderator? The one the ended with a thinly veiled threat. Was the new mod’s first task to delete their own post?

ME, ME, ME.

I volunteered for the position of Official Instigator, but I never heard back. 

I've had a theory (about what happened to that mysterious post, that I happened to see)..........but I should probably keep that theory to myself.  There's really only about 2 realistic scenarios.  Maybe time will tell if I've been on the right track.  I imagine others here have had the same theory(ies).

I *do* think we need additional nominees for "Official Instigator" - just for the freedom of choice angle.  In no way denigrating BuzzClik's candidacy.

If a post is flushed down the pan, and no-one is there to receive it, does it make a splash?
